In 1921, Gabrielle Chanel asked Ernest Beaux to develop a “woman’s perfume, with a woman’s scent.” The perfumer presented her with a visionary expression that made unprecedented use of aldehydes. Mademoiselle chose the fifth sample and decided to name it simply N°5. For this new composition, she selected a bottle with a revolutionary design, adorned with a white label and topped with a faceted cabochon. In 1986, Jacques Polge reinterpreted his predecessor’s work to imagine a fuller version of the now and forever fragrance: the Eau de Parfum.

COMPOSITION

The Eau de Parfum draws inspiration from the original Parfum, which shares the same floral-aldehydic signature. This bouquet, composed around rose and jasmine, includes bright citrus top notes. Aldehydes create a unique presence, while the smooth touch of vanilla yields an incredibly sensual trail.
